Genesis 26 – Reading Note

• Isaac didn’t just give Esau the blessing. He asked Esau to perform a task first. God also asked Abraham to do something – to leave his country and his people and go to another land.
• Isaac wanted to confirm that it was Esau before giving the blessing (v 21 – 24). He suspected some trickery because he knew it was Jacob’s voice.
• When blessing Jacob, Isaac says “be lord over your brothers” even though Jacob had only one brother.
• When Isaac found out he had blessed the wrong son, he couldn’t (or wouldn’t) take the blessing back. (v 33)
• Esau waited for Isaac to die before killing Jacob. Did he think he could get rid of Isaac’s blessing that way?
